Long weekends are for brunching. So that’s what my cousins and I did this past long weekend as an early birthday celebration for myself. The menu items at The Tiny Giant, are Instagram worthy, from their delicious custard filled cronuts to their famous brioche toast, with the current trending item, the over the rainbow bagels. We headed to The Tiny Giant just before 12pm on the public holiday Monday, to a queue of hungry customers. We proceed to give the staff our name and waited for a table. Lucky for us, the queue moved quite quickly, and we were given a table inside this little establishment. The café is quite compact in size and it may be best to opt for an outdoor seat than indoors as it can get quite cosy.

We pondered over the menu on what to order whilst checking out all the other table’s food hehe, the staff were attentive and asked if we would like any coffee orders to start. It wasn’t long after that we placed our order, the croquet madam for me, whilst my cousins ordered the baked hotpot with avocado and the baked chicken salad. We also couldn’t come here and not order their over the rainbow bagels, there are two options available, the berry bagel and the banana & salted caramel bagel, we opted for the banana and salted caramel. After placing out orders, the order of coffee arrived.

Shortly after, our food started to arrive, with the Baked Chicken Salad coming first, and the other dishes following shortly after. Let’s start off with my dish, which was the Croque madam, this was a toasted sourdough with smoked jamon, béchamel, gruyere and a 72 hour truffle infused egg. The egg was cooked perfectly with a soft yolky centre, and the balance of cheese was just right, without being too heavy. There was quite a substantial amount of jamon, and the bread was toasted just right. I quite enjoyed this dish, and will order it again.

When the Baked Chicken Salad arrived, I was surprised to see it was quite a substantial salad, with baked chicken, roast pumpkin, fresh slaw, spinach, aioli and a black sesame and lime dressing, there was also segments of orange in this salad. My cousin’s verdict was the salad was tasty, and packed with chicken. The Baked Hotpot is a slow cooked tomato sugo, common mushrooms, onion, Danish feta and two free range eggs baked in an iron pan, served with a piece of sourdough, we also ordered the add on of avocado. This dish is also very tasty, with the eggs cooked perfect and a nice balance of all the favours, making it a comforting brunch option for winter.

Baked Hotpot with Avocado Add on ($16.9 + $4)
The Over the Rainbow Banana and Salted Caramel Bagel was shared amongst the three of us, and declared the prettiest bagel we’ve seen. The Rainbow bagel was topped with mascarpone cheese, salted caramel, caramel tim tam crunch and fresh bananas, whilst the plate contained crispy banana chips and salted caramel, the bagel was then topped with Vanilla Persian Pash Mack and shredded coconut. Despite all the sugary items on the dish, it was very well balanced, and not overly sweet, which caught us by surprise. We really enjoyed this one, and I’m eager to return to try the berry version.

We had a great brunch at The Tiny Giant, despite the café being quite busy, staff were friendly and attentive, the food is tasty and the servings are on the decent side. They are consistently changing their specials menu, and we can’t wait to see what the next insta-worthy food item will be. Best to get in early to avoid waiting in queues, or you can also opt for takeaway.
