Chef’s Dynasty Yum Cha & Seafood, Bankstown

All You Can Eat Yum Cha Dinner? HELL FREAKEN YEAH!!!

This is what happened when my foodie cousin messaged me a post she had seen on Facebook advertising All You Can Eat Yum Cha Dinner at Chefs Dynasty Bankstown. The idea of yum cha already excites me, what’s more exciting than trolleys full of delicious food being wheeled right to your table? Whilst my husband grew up eating a Sunday roast, my family’s Sunday ritual was yum cha. Well let me tell you… ALL YOU CAN EAT YUM CHA FOR THIRTY FIVE DOLLARS ($35) FOR DINNER, It was like my dreams have been answered.

I quickly searched Facebook for the restaurant’s page to seek more information on this promotion, and just exactly as my cousin had advised, ALL YOU CAN EAT YUM CHA AVAILABLE 7 nights a week. Hmm, but that was all, there was no other info, could it really be true? Was there no restrictions? There was only one way to find out, I contacted the restaurant via private message on Facebook (that’s how they said to make a booking) and before we knew it, we were booked in for a 6pm the next day, being a Thursday night.

We arrived at the restaurant eager and 15 minutes early for our 6pm booking on a Thursday night. As we approached the front, we advised the staff we were early for our booking, there was no issues, as they directed us to pay for the meal first before seating. Staff then proceeded to usher us to our seats and asked if we would like some drinks, Chinese tea, table water, soft drinks etc. We opted for Chinese tea and table water, and few minutes later, the staff returned with our chilli sauce, Chinese tea and a bottle of table water. On our table, there A4 display sign explaining how it all works - all you can eat yum cha, served by the lovely trolley ladies, delicious dumplings, dim sums, deep fried goodies, deserts and plenty more, sauces and hot tea. We were getting the full yum cha experience with unlimited eats at dinnertime, we were beyond excited by this time.

We then started to see the lovely ladies push the yum cha trolleys over to our table. First trolley - the dumpling trolley, har gau, siu mai, spinach prawn, vegetarian, you name it they had it all, we had to get the classics of prawn dumplings (har gau) and prawn and pork dumplings (siu mai) and we also got the spinach prawn dumplings to try. The verdict, the har gau was good, filled with bouncy prawn and thin translucent skins. Siu Mai, these were filled with pork and prawn, and were quite meaty. The spinach and prawn, similar to the har gau, the skins were thin translucent, and filled with lots of spinach, garlic and prawns, these were simply tasty.

The Dumpling Trolley

Once the dumpling lady moved on, the rice noodle lady moved through, offering a prawn and a beef rice noodle (Cheong Fun), we asked for BBQ pork, and the staff advised they will make us some (we actually never got it, but was too full by the time we realised, that we didn’t care), we still got the prawn one anyway. The rice noodle was silky smooth, filled with big prawns and doused in the sweet soy, their version of this dish is a good one in our books.

The Rice Noodle Lady

The next trolley was the other bamboo steamer trolley aka the offal lady, and she had chicken feet, tripe, pork ribs, meat balls and sticky rice, we opted for the chicken feet (Fung jao) and sticky rice (lo mai gai), which were both delicious. My friend was eager to eat BBQ pork buns (Char siu bao) as they were her favourite, but we didn’t see any on the trolley, so I flagged a staff member down and before we knew it she came cover with the steamer of BBQ pork buns for us.

The Offal Lady

The last trolley that came by us was the fried trolley, filled with fried prawn dumplings, spring rolls, taro dumplings (wu gok), and fried pork dumplings (Ham soi gok). We choose the spring rolls and fried prawn dumplings, packed with a seafood filling and fried to a perfect crispiness. We also opted for our childhood favourite, the taro dumplings, and these were delicious filled with mashed taro and pork mince, and the outer shell, light, fluffy and crispy.

The Fried Goods Lady

As we dug into our yum cha feast with our table filled with bamboo steamers and plates of fried goodness, we saw plates of green broccoli, fried noodles, fried dough rice noodle and congee all being delivered to other tables. So I flagged down a staff member and asked, and she said it was all included, we could ask for anything we wanted, and they would advise if they didn’t have it. So we did, we ordered the green broccoli and congee to continue on. We were happily eating away, piling empty bamboo steamers on top of each other for the staff to collect, when the staff came over and asked if we wanted to order any salt and pepper calamari, soft shell crab or pipis. We looked up immediately, as we had totally forgotten about these, and happily agreed to all of the above.

At this stage, we were getting quite full, and knew we needed to move to deserts before it was too late. A quick glance and we saw the desert trolley, sweet tofu (tofu fa), mango pancakes, mango pudding and mango jelly was on offer. Whilst the fried goods trolley contain some custard buns and egg tarts, so we flagged them both down choosing to go for the tofu, custard tarts, mango pancakes and mango pudding ending a great meal on tasty sweet note.

: Sweet Tofu, Mango Pancakes, Mango Pudding, Egg Tarts

The variety of yum cha dishes was plentiful, the same as any busy yum cha restaurant, and the food hot, delicious, tasty and fresh. We didn’t get a dish that we didn’t like, or thought was not good. The staff here provided friendly and helpful service, which was more than we were expecting, and consistently offering to help and refill our teas. We all agreed that we were quite impressed with experience and food quality here at Chef’s Dynasty. The all you can eat yum cha dinner experience had almost no rules and restrictions, and included a full yum cha menu with plenty of options. We really recommend this experience to anyone, but best to get in quick before the word spreads.
