Dong Hae Sushi Bar, Campsie
I have walked past Dong Hae Sushi Bar numerous times always wondering what lurked inside this corner sushi bar. So on a stormy Wednesday, we decided to drop in and grab dinner whilst waiting for the rain to clear.

We arrived around 6pm and were the first one and only one into the restaurant, however the crowd moved in quite quickly after, and in no time, the restaurant was full. It is a small establishment, with a sushi bar that seats around 10 and an only 1 big table at the back that seats around 8. We proceeded to the big table towards the back, as soon as we were seated, the staff handed us the menu. Being a sushi bar, the menu consisted of mostly sushi and sashimi, but also had your popular starters along with some rice, noodles and set meals.

We decided to start off with edamame and gyoza, and also ordered the small sashimi and family sized sushi. After we ordered, the staff bought over complementary green tea and side salads for the table, so far so good hehe.

Our edamame was the first to arrive, nothing too fancy, just your good old trusty edamame with a sprinkle of salt, sizing size was average for the price.

Edamame ($5)
Followed not long after was our order of gyoza. I was quite impressed with the size of the gyoza and the serving for the price, I’m not sure why but I was really only expecting some small gyozas and only about 4-5 pieces, we got 7 full pieces. The gyozas came with a dipping sauce and was served hot and fried to a crispy perfection, with a filling of pork and greens.

Gyoza ($8)
As we started to dig into our gyozas both sashimi and sushi were bought over to our table. The sushi was served on a Japanese boat and was beautifully presented, we were excited to start. We started off with the sashimi first which consisted of tuna, sashimi and king fish and a total of 16 pieces. The sashimi was fresh and vibrant, there wasn’t more you could ask for here.

Sashimi Small ($15)
Next order was the Family sized sushi, and consisted of a variety of nigiri including salmon, tuna, prawn, squid, kingfish and imitation crab, there was also 4 pieces of a California roll and 2 of the fish roe gunkan. We definitely thought that this was value for meal, considering there was 24 pieces on this serving. The sushi was fresh and delicious, and rice to fish ratio was perfect.

Sushi Family ($32)
Our experience at Dong Hae Sushi Bar was a great one, a local gem with value for money sushi. The sushi is made fresh at the bar and the chefs seem very flexible with the sushi orders, changing it up as requested by the customers.
We will return to try their value meal sets, $14 for an udon/soba set and 6 pieces of sushi, sounds like a bargain to us
